ERP software unifies finance, inventory, production, purchase, sales and often HR into a single database. It is the highest-stakes purchase in this catalogue: implementation typically costs more than licensing, and a failed rollout is expensive to unwind.

Price the implementation, not the licence; ask for fixed-scope quotes from two partners and reference calls with customers in your industry.
Check the Indian localisation depth: GST, e-invoicing, TDS, e-way bills and state-level compliance should be native, not custom.
Decide between an SMB ERP (Tally-adjacent, Busy, Marg, ERPNext, Zoho One) and a mid-market suite (SAP B1, NetSuite, Dynamics 365) based on users and complexity, not ambition.
Get an instant demo
ERPNext (open source) and Zoho One are the lowest-cost full suites; TallyPrime with add-ons, Busy or Marg cover trading and light manufacturing at a fraction of mid-market ERP cost.
Three to six months for an SMB ERP; six to eighteen months for SAP, Oracle or Dynamics in a mid-size company.
India buyer's guide
ERP software ties sales, purchasing, inventory, production, accounts and often HR into one database, so a sales order booked at a branch updates stock, production plans and receivables without re-entry. For Indian mid-sized companies it must also handle GST across several GSTINs, e-invoices and e-way bills at dispatch, job-work challans, TDS on vendor payments and reports that auditors and lenders ask for.
Good ERP rollouts reflect how the business really works, with approval chains, costing methods and reports that managers open every morning. Poor ones force every department to bend around rigid modules, overrun their timelines, and end with staff keeping side spreadsheets. In practice the implementation partner's industry experience matters as much as the software, because they decide how well your processes are mapped.
The best ERP for an Indian company handles your core cycle — make-to-order manufacturing, distribution, or project execution — with configuration rather than custom code. Walk through order-to-cash and procure-to-pay with your own data, including e-invoice generation at dispatch and GSTR-2B matching on purchases. Ask the implementation partner for references in your industry, and check how customisations survive version upgrades before comparing licence prices.

Checked on each vendor's official website (September 2026). A dash means the vendor does not publish it or we could not verify it — not that the feature is missing. Prices exclude GST unless the source says otherwise. App Advisor publishes no user ratings.

A small business moving to ERP should start with sales, purchase, inventory and accounts, adding production, quality or HR modules only when there is a clear need. Cloud deployment avoids buying servers, and industry templates speed up setup. Keep customisation to the minimum, because every custom screen raises the cost and risk of future upgrades. Choose a vendor whose partner can train staff on site.
ERPs built for India usually include GST with multiple GSTINs, e-invoice and e-way bill integration, TDS and TCS, job-work tracking, and statutory reports in formats Indian auditors expect. Many bundle Indian payroll with PF, ESI and professional tax. Implementation partners are spread across industrial cities, support runs on Indian hours, and some products offer regional-language screens for shop-floor and warehouse users.

App Advisor publishes no user ratings. ERP reviews mostly describe a particular implementation, so a poor score may reflect the partner rather than the product. Look for patterns such as upgrade pain, slow reports on large data, or weak support after go-live. Ask the vendor for two reference customers in your industry and size, call them, and ask what they would do differently. How App Advisor rates software.
Put these rows in an ERP comparison: module coverage for your industry, GST and statutory compliance, production planning and costing, multi-location and multi-company support, cloud or on-premise deployment, customisation method and upgrade impact, integration APIs, reporting and dashboards, mobile access for sales and warehouse staff, user licence types, implementation partner quality, typical rollout duration, and data export rights at exit.
ERP pricing in India follows several models: per named or concurrent user, per module, or a bundled edition, sold as a cloud subscription or an on-premise licence with annual maintenance. Many vendors distinguish full users from limited or read-only users. Implementation, customisation, data migration and training are normally quoted separately as project fees by the vendor or its partner.
Every published plan, its billing term and whether GST is extra is on the ERP software price list for India, each price linked to the vendor's own pricing page.
Free and open-source ERPs exist, and some cloud vendors offer free tiers with a user cap and a few modules. The software may cost nothing, but hosting, implementation, customisation and support do. Community editions may lack Indian GST features or statutory reports that paid editions include. They suit small firms with in-house technical skills who can maintain the system.
Trial lengths as each vendor states them are listed on the free ERP software page.
Send the vendor your own scenario before the ERP demo — a multi-level bill of materials, a job-work cycle, or an inter-state branch transfer — and ask them to run it live. Ask how customisations are handled during upgrades, who owns the implementation plan, how data from your current system will be migrated, and what support looks like after go-live. Request contacts for reference customers.
Most startups do not need a full ERP in their first years. It becomes useful once you manage inventory across locations, contract manufacturing or multiple entities. At that point choose a modular cloud ERP with good APIs, since startups often connect it to their own apps and e-commerce stack. Avoid long contracts and heavy customisation that make pivots expensive.
MSMEs need an ERP that handles GST, inventory, production and accounts without a year-long project. Industry-specific templates, a local implementation partner and affordable per-module pricing help. The harder task is usually getting staff to enter data on time, so training and simple screens matter. Check that owners get the reports they need on mobile. Phased rollout by department reduces risk.
Manufacturers need ERP features such as multi-level bills of material, material requirement planning, production scheduling, quality checks, job work, scrap and by-product handling, and product costing. Batch and lot traceability matters in regulated sectors. Plant maintenance and shop-floor data capture are often needed. GST on job work, e-way bills for material movement and capital goods ITC must all be supported.
Retail chains use ERP to connect POS, purchasing, warehousing, merchandising and accounts across stores. Central pricing and promotions, automatic replenishment based on store sales, vendor management and store-wise profitability are key needs. Integration with e-commerce channels and marketplaces supports omnichannel selling, and the ERP must handle high volumes of POS transactions daily. Franchise stores may need separate billing and royalty calculation.
Agencies and professional-services firms may use an ERP centred on projects: resource planning, timesheets, milestone billing, expense tracking and project profitability. Utilisation reports show which teams are over- or under-used. For smaller agencies, a lighter project and billing tool may give most of this benefit without ERP-level implementation effort. Check whether multi-currency billing and inter-company accounting are needed for overseas offices before choosing.
GST support in an ERP must cover several GSTINs under one company, tax invoices with HSN or SAC, e-invoice IRN and QR generation at dispatch, e-way bills, job-work challans and returns, reverse charge, and GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B data. Purchase invoices should be matched with GSTR-2B before ITC is claimed. Stock transfers between branches in different states must be invoiced as taxable supplies.
Consider ERP alternatives when customisations block upgrades, support has weakened, licensing costs keep rising, or the system cannot handle new plants or entities. Switching ERP is a project in itself: plan data migration for masters, open transactions and balances, run a parallel period, and retrain staff. Check your contract for data export rights and notice periods before starting.

Straight affiliate programmes are less common in ERP than in smaller software categories, because deals involve long sales cycles and implementation. Some vendors pay referral fees for qualified leads that convert. Check what makes a lead qualified, how long attribution lasts, when payment is released, and how TDS is handled on referral income. Written agreements matter more here than in low-value categories.
Partner programmes are central to ERP. Partners sell, implement, customise and support the system for clients. Check certification and training requirements, revenue share on licences versus services, territory or industry restrictions, access to development and test environments, and the vendor's support for complex projects. Clarify responsibility if an implementation goes wrong. Also check the vendor's policy on partners building add-on modules.
ERP resellers sell licences and often bundle implementation and support services. Check your margin, pricing freedom, who raises the GST invoice, how renewals and additional users are handled, and your support obligations. Understand liability terms for failed or delayed implementations, since clients usually hold the reseller responsible first. Check too whether you may sell to clients outside an assigned territory or industry.
All verified programs across categories are in the software partner program directory. More India software guides: business software in India.
Timelines depend on scope, customisation and data readiness. A small firm using standard modules may go live in weeks, while multi-plant manufacturers often need several months. Clean master data, a fixed scope and a dedicated internal project owner are the biggest factors that keep a rollout on schedule.
Cloud ERP removes server management, allows access from any location, and usually has lower upfront cost. On-premise ERP gives more control and can suit companies with strict data policies or unreliable internet at plants. Compare the total cost over several years, including hardware, IT staff and upgrades, before deciding.
Most Indian ERPs support multiple GSTINs with separate invoice series and return data for each. Check how inter-branch stock transfers are invoiced, whether consolidated financial reports are available, and how ITC is tracked per GSTIN so returns can be filed separately for each state.
Failures usually come from unclear processes, excessive customisation, poor data migration and weak user adoption rather than the software itself. Involve department heads from the start, agree on standard processes before configuring, limit custom development and plan enough training so staff use the system instead of spreadsheets.
Most modern ERPs offer APIs or ready connectors for common CRMs, marketplaces and payment gateways. Check whether a connector exists for your specific tools, who builds and maintains custom integrations, and how errors in sync are reported so orders are not lost between systems.
Your contract should give you the right to export data in standard formats such as CSV or database backups. Check how long data remains available after termination, whether export is charged, and whether historical transactions, documents and audit logs are included.
