SAP

SAP SE is a German enterprise software company headquartered in Walldorf, Baden-Württemberg. Founded in 1972 by five former IBM employees, it develops enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and related applications that large and mid-sized organisations use to run finance, procurement, supply chain, manufacturing, human resources and customer operations.

Its main product lines include SAP S/4HANA (its current-generation ERP suite), SAP Business One and SAP Business ByDesign for smaller companies, SuccessFactors for human capital management, Ariba for procurement, Concur for travel and expense management, and the SAP Business Technology Platform for data, analytics, integration and AI services. Many of these products came from acquisitions, including SuccessFactors, Ariba and Concur. SAP groups its current cloud offerings under the RISE with SAP and GROW with SAP programmes: RISE is aimed at large companies moving existing SAP systems to the cloud, and GROW at mid-sized companies adopting cloud ERP for the first time.

In India, SAP sells directly to large enterprises and through a network of partners and resellers to small and mid-sized businesses. SAP publishes no list prices for most products in India. Pricing is quoted per deal and depends on the modules, number of users and whether the software is deployed in the cloud or on premises. SAP Labs India in Bengaluru is one of the company's largest research and development centres outside Germany. For Indian customers, SAP's ERP localisation covers GST invoicing, e-way bills and statutory reporting, and its implementation partners range from global systems integrators to regional firms.

SAP SE is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. Christian Klein has been CEO since 2020, and in 2026 the company reorganised its executive board to put more emphasis on artificial intelligence. Before choosing SAP, buyers should budget separately for implementation services, which often cost as much as the licence or subscription.
