Free, independent software advice for Indian businesses
For software companies: reach Indian businesses ready to buy
Odoo S.A. is a Belgian company that develops Odoo, an open-source suite of business applications. Fabien Pinckaers, its founder and CEO, started the project as TinyERP in 2005. It was renamed OpenERP in 2008 and Odoo in 2014. The company's headquarters, which houses marketing, services and R&D, is at Chaussée de Namur 40, Grand-Rosière (Ramillies), in Walloon Brabant, Belgium. According to Odoo's own history, it had more than 100 employees by 2010, when it decided to become a software publisher rather than a services firm. It raised €3 million from Sofinnova Partners and Xavier Niel around 2010–2011, and US$10 million in Series B financing in May 2014, at the time of the Odoo rebrand. The company says OpenERP had reached 2 million users by 2013.
Odoo says it has built about 50 main applications, and its community has contributed more than 50,000 more. The main apps cover accounting, invoicing, CRM, sales, purchase, inventory, manufacturing, point of sale, e-commerce, website, HR and project management, and they share one database. Odoo Community is free and open source; Odoo Enterprise adds proprietary modules, hosting (Odoo Online or Odoo.sh) and support. Odoo has India-specific accounting localisation, including GST reports and e-invoicing.
Odoo sells Enterprise subscriptions priced per user on its website and through more than 21,000 partners worldwide. The partners handle implementation and customisation. Odoo runs an office in Gujarat, India, which does R&D, services and sales.
Odoo is privately held. Summit Partners invested in several rounds from 2019 to 2022, and General Atlantic led a 2023 investment. Odoo says it has more than 8,000 employees and 28 million users worldwide. In January 2026 General Atlantic bought an additional minority stake from Wallonie Entreprendre, in a deal that valued Odoo at more than €7 billion.
