Meta Platforms, Inc., formerly Facebook, Inc., is a US technology company headquartered at 1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, California. It was founded in 2004 with the launch of Facebook. It now also runs Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, and is investing in mixed reality and AI. Mark Zuckerberg is founder, Chairman and CEO. Meta's 2025 Form 10-K reported 78,865 employees at 31 December 2025. The company renamed itself from Facebook to Meta on 28 October 2021 to bring its apps and technologies under one company brand.

For Indian businesses, Meta's most relevant tools are the free WhatsApp Business App for small businesses, and the WhatsApp Business Platform (API) used by larger companies and software vendors for customer messaging. Businesses also use Meta Business Suite to manage Facebook and Instagram pages, Meta Ads Manager for paid advertising, and Instagram's creator and professional tools.

Meta makes most of its money from advertising, bought on self-serve auction pricing. The WhatsApp Business Platform charges per message or conversation, and most businesses access it through Business Solution Providers, many of them Indian software companies. WhatsApp Business App and Business Suite are free to use.

Meta trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol META. Its senior team includes Chief Financial Officer Susan Li and Chief Operating Officer Javier Olivan. From the fourth quarter of 2021, Meta began reporting results in two segments: Family of Apps and Reality Labs. Meta describes its mission as building the future of human connection and the technology that makes it possible. India is one of WhatsApp's largest markets, but Meta's filings do not give Indian user or revenue figures.
