Postman

Postman is an API platform company, and its tools help developers and teams design, build, test, document and monitor application programming interfaces (APIs). It began in Bengaluru, India, and is now headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in Bengaluru and Tokyo.

The Postman platform includes the API client that many developers first use for sending and testing requests, as well as collections and workspaces for team collaboration and mock servers, monitors and automated tests. It also offers API documentation, governance, and the public Postman API Network. Indian IT services firms, product companies and fintechs commonly use it for API development and integration testing.

Postman uses a freemium model. The free plan is used by individuals and small teams, while Basic, Professional and Enterprise tiers are billed per user, mostly in US dollars online, and larger organisations sign enterprise contracts through the sales team.

Abhinav Asthana started Postman in 2014 as a side project to simplify API testing, and co-founded the company with Ankit Sobti and Abhijit Kane, all three of whom still lead it. Asthana is CEO. In August 2021, Postman closed a $225 million Series D round led by Insight Partners at a reported valuation of $5.6 billion. Postman says more than 500,000 companies use it, including 98% of the Fortune 500. Postman has not published a current employee count on its About page and does not disclose revenue. Its most recent publicly reported funding round is still the 2021 Series D. Indian teams on paid plans should check how seats are billed and which features require an enterprise contract.
