For a growing Indian business, the right hosting step after shared hosting is usually one of two things. A fixed-price VPS, where Hostinger's India page lists KVM 1 at ₹599 per month on a 24-month term, suits predictable websites and internal apps. A hyperscale or Indian cloud (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure or E2E Networks) suits workloads that need autoscaling, managed databases or pay-per-hour billing. AWS, Google Cloud and Azure all run regions inside India. That helps with latency and with CERT-In's requirement to keep logs within Indian jurisdiction. This guide compares official prices, explains when each model fits, and gives a worked cost model.
Executive summary
- VPS is the cheapest step up from shared hosting. Hostinger's KVM plans run from ₹599/month (1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe) to ₹2,199/month (8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM) on a 2-year upfront term. Renewal prices are much higher (₹999 to ₹4,399/month), so model the renewal, not the promotion.
- Indian cloud providers publish hourly INR prices. E2E Networks lists a 4 vCPU / 8 GB instance at ₹3.58/hour (₹2,612.64/month), excluding taxes. Hyperscalers price per second or hour, mainly in USD.
- India regions exist on all three hyperscalers. AWS has Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2, opt-in). Google Cloud has Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2). Azure lists Central India (Pune), South India (Chennai), West India (Mumbai) and India South Central (Hyderabad).
- CERT-In puts duties on both hosts and customers. VPS and cloud providers must keep validated subscriber information for 5 years. Every body corporate must keep ICT logs for 180 days within India and report incidents within 6 hours.
- Managed vs unmanaged is the real cost driver. An unmanaged VPS makes you responsible for patching, backups and security. For teams without a sysadmin, that labour usually costs more than the server.
Market context
Regulation. The CERT-In Directions of 28 April 2022 (PDF) are the most important rule for hosting decisions in India:
- Data centres, Virtual Private Server (VPS) providers, cloud service providers and VPN providers must register and keep accurate subscriber information for 5 years or longer after the service ends. Expect KYC at sign-up.
- All service providers, intermediaries, data centres, body corporate and government organisations must connect to NIC or NPL NTP servers, or servers traceable to them, for clock synchronisation.
- Logs of all ICT systems must be maintained securely for a rolling 180 days within Indian jurisdiction.
- Listed cyber incidents must be reported to CERT-In within 6 hours of noticing them.
The DPDP Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025 add obligations for any server that processes personal data. The Government describes an 18-month phased compliance timeline (PIB release).

We have not found an official government dataset on India's VPS or cloud hosting market size, so we make no market-size or growth-rate claims.
Where Nutanix fits. Nutanix appears in many "pricing" searches, but it is a hyperconverged infrastructure and hybrid cloud platform, sold mainly through partners with quote-based pricing. It is relevant if you run your own servers or a private cloud. A small business renting a first VPS rarely needs it. See the Nutanix profile.

Hyperscalers
| Provider | Pricing model | Free/credit offer seen | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS | Per-second/hour, varies by region and instance family | Not verified for this article | AWS Regions |
| Google Cloud | Per-second, varies by region and machine type | New customers get $300 in free credits (stated on Compute Engine docs) | Google Cloud |
| Azure | Per-second/hour, varies by region | Not verified for this article | Azure regions |
We deliberately do not quote individual hyperscaler instance prices. They vary by region, instance family, operating system, commitment and currency, and a single number would mislead. Use each provider's pricing calculator with the India region selected.

VPS, Indian cloud or hyperscaler: a decision guide
The three hosting models solve different problems. The table below summarises the trade-offs qualitatively.
| Factor | Fixed-price VPS | Indian cloud (hourly INR) | Hyperscaler (AWS/GCP/Azure) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Billing | Prepaid term, fixed monthly equivalent | Hourly or monthly, INR | Per second/hour, mostly USD list prices |
| Scaling | Upgrade plan, sometimes with downtime | Resize instances; add nodes | Autoscaling groups, managed services |
| Managed databases | Usually self-managed | Available on some providers | Broad managed catalogue |
| Skills needed | Linux administration | Linux plus cloud console | Cloud architecture, IAM, networking |
| Best for | Websites, small ERPs, internal tools | Growing apps wanting INR billing and local support | Multi-service platforms, regulated scale-ups, global users |
| Main risk | Single server failure; renewal price jump | Vendor lock-in to provider features | Bill complexity, egress and misconfiguration |
Signs you have outgrown a VPS
- CPU or RAM regularly above 80% at peak, and the next plan up is a large jump.
- You need separate staging and production environments.
- Downtime during upgrades or patching is no longer acceptable.
- You need a managed database with automated backups and failover.
- Several developers need controlled access with individual audit trails.
Signs you are over-engineering
- A single website or small ERP running on Kubernetes with no one to maintain it.
- Paying for multi-zone high availability for an internal tool used in office hours.
- A cloud bill dominated by idle instances, unattached disks and old snapshots.
Security baseline for any hosting model
Whichever model you choose, the security basics are the same, and most of them cost nothing but time:
- Access: SSH keys or cloud IAM roles, no shared root passwords, MFA on the provider console.
- Network: a firewall that allows only required ports; admin panels restricted by IP or VPN.
- Patching: automatic security updates, plus a monthly review of application dependencies.
- Logging: system, web server, application and firewall logs shipped to a central store with 180-day retention in India, as the CERT-In Directions require.
- Time: NTP configured to NIC/NPL-traceable servers, so log timestamps are reliable during an investigation.
- Backups: snapshots for quick rollback, plus an independent copy outside the provider account.
- Incident readiness: a runbook that names who reports to CERT-In within 6 hours, and how.
Questions to ask a hosting provider
- Which data centre city hosts my server and its backups?
- What is the renewal price, and does resizing reset the promotional term?
- Is bandwidth or egress metered beyond the plan allowance?
- What KYC documents are required? (Providers must retain subscriber details for 5 years under the Directions.)
- What support response times apply, and is support available during Indian business hours?
Total cost of ownership
Illustrative model — assumptions stated. A 60-person distributor running a self-hosted ERP web app plus a WordPress site. Assumptions:
- Workload needs roughly 4 vCPU and 16 GB RAM, running 24×7 (730 hours/month).
- Server administration: 6 hours per month at an assumed ₹1,000/hour for an unmanaged VPS (patching, backups, monitoring). We assume 3 hours per month on a cloud with managed snapshots and monitoring. These are our assumptions.
- Off-site backup storage: an assumed ₹1,500/month in all options.
- Prices exclude GST. Promotional terms per vendor pages.
| 3-year cost line | Option A: Hostinger KVM 4 | Option B: E2E Networks C3.16GB (8 vCPU/16 GB) |
|---|---|---|
| Years 1–2 server | ₹1,099 × 24 = ₹26,376 | ₹5,129.50 × 24 = ₹1,23,108 |
| Year 3 server | Renewal ₹2,399 × 12 = ₹28,788 | ₹5,129.50 × 12 = ₹61,554 |
| Admin time | 6 h × ₹1,000 × 36 = ₹2,16,000 | 3 h × ₹1,000 × 36 = ₹1,08,000 |
| Backup storage (assumed) | ₹54,000 | ₹54,000 |
| 3-year total (excl. GST) | ₹3,25,164 | ₹3,46,662 |
What the model shows:
- The server line is small next to admin labour. Halving admin time almost closes a ₹1.3 lakh gap in server price.
- Renewal pricing changes the VPS picture in year 3. Always model the renewal.
- Option B's 8 vCPU is more than the workload needs. Right-sizing to a 4 vCPU instance would change the result. Test with real load before you commit.
- If the ERP vendor offers SaaS, compare against that too. Hosting may not be necessary at all. See our ERP guide.
Cost controls that work on any cloud
- Tag every resource with an owner and a project, so orphaned servers can be traced.
- Schedule non-production shutdowns outside office hours where hourly billing applies.
- Delete unattached disks and old snapshots each month.
- Watch data transfer charges. Moving large amounts of data out of a cloud, or between regions, is often billed separately.
- Set budget alerts at 50%, 80% and 100% of the monthly budget.
- Revisit sizing every quarter using real utilisation data, not the estimate made at launch.
Implementation roadmap
Weeks 1–2: Size and select
- Measure current CPU, RAM, disk IOPS and bandwidth for 2 weeks.
- Decide managed vs unmanaged based on in-house skills.
- Pick an India region close to users. Confirm the provider's KYC requirements.
Weeks 3–4: Build securely
- Harden the OS: SSH keys only, firewall, automatic security updates, no root login.
- Configure NTP against NIC/NPL-traceable servers, as the CERT-In Directions require.
- Centralise logs and set 180-day retention in an India location.
- Set up snapshots plus off-site backups, and test a restore.
Weeks 5–6: Migrate
- Stage the application, run load tests and cut DNS over with a low TTL.
- Keep the old host for 2 weeks as a rollback.
Weeks 7–8: Operate
- Add uptime and resource monitoring with alerts. See observability tools pricing.
- Write an incident runbook that includes CERT-In reporting within 6 hours.
- Review the bill monthly for idle resources and egress charges.
Risks and compliance checklist
- CERT-In 6-hour incident reporting process documented, with a named owner.
- 180-day ICT log retention within Indian jurisdiction for servers, firewalls and applications.
- NTP synchronisation with NIC/NPL or traceable servers.
- Provider KYC completed with accurate company details (providers must retain them for 5 years).
- DPDP Act: personal data encrypted at rest and in transit; access logged; retention and deletion defined.
- Data localisation: India region selected where contracts, RBI-regulated activities or sector rules require it. Confirm backups also stay in the required location.
- Renewal price and term recorded; calendar reminder 60 days before renewal.
- Backups: at least one copy off the primary provider; restore tested quarterly.
- Patch cadence: critical OS patches within 7 days.
KPIs to track
| KPI | Suggested target |
|---|---|
| Uptime (monthly) | At least 99.9% for customer-facing apps |
| Mean time to detect an outage | Under 5 minutes |
| Average CPU utilisation | 30–60% (below means oversized, above means risk) |
| Critical patches older than 7 days | Zero |
| Successful restore tests | 1 per quarter |
| Hosting cost as % of revenue from the app | Track the trend quarter on quarter |
How to choose
- Choose a fixed-price VPS (e.g., Hostinger KVM) for WordPress, small ERPs and internal tools with steady traffic, if someone can manage Linux. Budget for renewal.
- Choose an Indian cloud (e.g., E2E Networks) if you want hourly INR billing, Indian support and flexible sizing.
- Choose AWS, Google Cloud or Azure if you need managed databases, autoscaling, Kubernetes or global reach, and want to keep data in India regions.
- Consider Nutanix or other private cloud platforms only if you own servers and need hybrid management at scale.
- Stay on managed hosting or SaaS if nobody in the company can own server security.

FAQs
What is Hostinger VPS price in India?
Hostinger's India VPS page lists KVM 1 at ₹599/month, KVM 2 at ₹799/month, KVM 4 at ₹1,099/month and KVM 8 at ₹2,199/month, each on a 24-month upfront term. Listed renewals are ₹999, ₹1,199, ₹2,399 and ₹4,399 per month respectively.
Which cloud providers have data centres in India?
According to official region lists, AWS has Mumbai and Hyderabad regions. Google Cloud has Mumbai and Delhi. Azure lists Central India (Pune), South India (Chennai), West India (Mumbai) and India South Central (Hyderabad).
Is a VPS enough for a growing business?
Often yes, for steady workloads such as websites, small ERPs and APIs. Move to cloud when you need autoscaling, managed databases, multiple environments or high availability across zones.
Do CERT-In rules apply to my VPS?
The provider has duties as a VPS provider. Your company, as a body corporate, must also report incidents within 6 hours, keep ICT logs for 180 days within India and sync clocks to NIC/NPL-traceable NTP servers.
What does Nutanix cost?
Nutanix pricing is quote-based and usually sold through partners. It is aimed at private and hybrid cloud infrastructure rather than single rented servers.
Is managed hosting worth it?
If you do not have in-house Linux and security skills, usually yes. In most cost models, admin labour outweighs the server price difference.
Should I pay in INR or USD?
INR invoicing with GST simplifies accounting and removes currency risk. USD billing can still be competitive, but budget a forex buffer.
Is the Hyderabad AWS region available by default?
No. AWS's official region list shows Asia Pacific (Mumbai) ap-south-1 as enabled by default, while Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) ap-south-2 requires opt-in. You enable it from the AWS console before creating resources there. Both regions list three Availability Zones.
