Anthropic

Anthropic is a US artificial intelligence safety and research company that develops the Claude family of large language models. It describes its mission as the responsible development and maintenance of advanced AI for the long-term benefit of humanity, and it is organised as a public benefit corporation.

The products relevant to Indian businesses are the Claude assistant apps for web, desktop and mobile; team and enterprise plans of Claude for organisations; the Claude API for developers building their own applications; and Claude Code, an agentic coding tool. Claude models are also available through major cloud platforms. Consumer and team plans are sold as self-serve subscriptions, the API is billed by usage, and enterprise agreements are negotiated with Anthropic's sales team.

Anthropic announced in October 2025 that it would expand to India, opening an office in Bengaluru in early 2026. That office is its second in the Asia-Pacific region, after Tokyo. In the announcement, the company said India ranked second globally in consumer usage of Claude, behind only the United States. The stated focus areas were enterprise partnerships, support for startups, AI for education, healthcare and agriculture, and improved capability in Indian languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Bengali.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI staff led by siblings Dario Amodei, who is CEO, and Daniela Amodei. Its board of directors includes Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Yasmin Razavi, Reed Hastings, Chris Liddell and Vas Narasimhan. A separate Long-Term Benefit Trust has a role in the company's governance.
