Quick answer: For an Indian business, the price that matters is the seat price multiplied by the people who will really use the assistant. On vendor pages checked in October 2026, Claude Pro is $17 a month on annual billing or $20 monthly, and its Team plan starts at two seats. Perplexity Pro is $17 a month billed annually and cannot be paid in rupees on recurring plans. ChatGPT sets prices per country, so read its page from an Indian login before you decide.

How we researched this: We read Claude's pricing page and its support articles on the Pro, Team and Enterprise plans, billing, tax IDs and refunds; Anthropic's supported-countries page; and Perplexity's pricing page plus its help-centre articles on plans and local currency. Facts are as checked in October 2026. ChatGPT prices are set per country on OpenAI's own pricing page, so this guide points you to that page instead of quoting a number.

What the paid plans cost, side by side

Every figure below is a published list price from the vendor's own page, checked in October 2026. Both vendors show a dollar sign; Claude's Enterprise line names US$, while the other lines show "$" without a currency code, so treat them as US dollars and confirm at checkout. Claude says its prices exclude applicable tax.

Claude EnterpriseUS$20/seat/month plus usage billed at API rates, annual only20 minimumSCIM, audit logs, Compliance API, spend limits
Perplexity Pro$17/month when billed annually1Deep Research, model selection, more usage and memory
Perplexity Max$167/month billed annually; $200 monthly per its help page1Highest usage limits, priority access to new features
Perplexity Enterprise ProStarts at $40/month or $400/year per seatPer seatSeat management, shared Projects, admin-managed billing

Two details are easy to miss. First, Claude's own support article says the Pro plan is "$20 per month (US), with pricing in your local currency where supported", and that monthly prices vary by region, with tax shown inside the price in some regions and added at checkout in others. It does not mention India or rupees, so the number an Indian buyer sees at checkout can differ from the table. Second, Claude Team and Enterprise are different products with different floors. Team caps at 150 seats; Enterprise self-serve starts at 20 seats and sales-assisted deals at 50, per the Enterprise article.

ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Team: what to pull before you compare

A fair comparison needs the same four numbers for every tool: monthly price in the currency you will actually be charged, tax treatment, seat minimum, and whether the plan has admin controls. For ChatGPT, read these off OpenAI's pricing page while logged in from an Indian account, because regional prices are set per country. App Advisor lists ChatGPT as a product, and the vendor page there will take you to the right place.

This guide leaves ChatGPT prices blank on purpose rather than guess. Print the comparison table above, add a column for ChatGPT Plus and one for ChatGPT's team plan, and fill in the four numbers yourself. If the team plan shows a seat minimum, a data-training statement and an admin console, you have a like-for-like match with Claude Team. If it does not, you are comparing a personal subscription with a managed workplace product.

Paying from India: currency, cards and GST paperwork

Three practical frictions decide whether a subscription is easy to expense in a rupee-accounts business.

Availability and currency. Anthropic's supported-countries page lists India among the places where Claude.ai and its API are offered. Perplexity's help article on local currency says users in India "currently cannot use Indian rupees (INR) for recurring subscriptions on Perplexity.ai", so Indian users subscribe in USD. Claude lists local-currency pricing "where supported" and does not say whether India is one of those places. Either way, your card issuer converts the charge, and the conversion margin plus any foreign-transaction fee is part of the real cost. Ask your bank for the markup before you put ten seats on one card.

Payment method. Claude's billing FAQ says web subscriptions accept "only credit or debit cards"; if you subscribe through the iOS or Android app, the App Store or Google Play decides your payment options. Perplexity's Pro billing FAQ lists Visa, Mastercard and AMEX cards, Cash App, Google and Apple Pay and ACH transfer, and does not list UPI. A company with only a current account and no international-enabled card will hit this wall first.

Tax ID on the invoice. Claude's support article says that if your address is eligible for tax purposes, an optional "Tax or VAT ID" field appears at signup or under Settings > Billing, and that updates apply only to future billing cycles. The article does not mention India or GSTIN. Do not assume your GSTIN will print on the invoice; do a first-month test and send the PDF to your accountant. How to treat the tax on foreign SaaS is a separate question covered in our guides on claiming GST input credit on SaaS subscriptions and GST on foreign SaaS under reverse charge.

Refunds. Claude's refund article says that "except as expressly provided in our Consumer Terms of Service or where required by law, all payments are non-refundable", with a 14-day withdrawal option described for the EEA and UK; the article names no India-specific rule. If a Pro subscriber upgrades to Team, the individual subscription is cancelled and a prorated refund is issued automatically. Test with one seat before you commit annual billing across the company.

Three Indian scenarios, priced with the numbers above

These are illustrations built from the list prices, not predictions of your bill.

A 3-person Pune digital marketing agency. Three Pro subscriptions on annual billing is 3 x $17 = $51 a month, but each sits on a personal account, with no central billing and no admin console. Claude Team Standard on annual billing is 3 x $20 = $60 a month, which adds central billing, SSO and admin controls for $9 more a month. When one freelancer leaves, you remove a seat instead of chasing a personal login that holds client briefs.

A 40-person Coimbatore textile exporter. The Team plan covers up to 150 seats, so a 40-seat rollout would be 40 x $20 = $800 a month on annual billing, if every employee needed a seat. They will not. Buy 8 to 10 seats for merchandising, documentation and finance staff who write and summarise daily, and review usage after 60 days. Claude's Team article says Standard seats include spend caps set at organisation or individual level, which is the control to switch on first.

A 120-person Hyderabad IT services firm. This one is near the Team ceiling, and security reviews come into play. Enterprise adds SCIM provisioning, audit logs, custom data retention and a Compliance API. The same article lists "US-only inference" under its security features, so a client contract that requires India-resident processing needs a written answer from the vendor, not an assumption. Our guide to data residency for SaaS in India lists the questions to ask.

Where Perplexity Pro fits instead of a chatbot subscription

Perplexity is built around search with citations rather than long document drafting. Its Pro help article lists extended Pro Search, more citations per answer, higher file-upload limits, access to advanced models and image generation. For a sales team that researches prospects, a procurement team that compares suppliers' public specifications, or a founder who tracks competitors, that fits better than a general assistant. For a team that mostly drafts proposals from internal files, a Claude Projects workspace is the closer fit.

Its Enterprise Pro line adds a trust centre, a no-training data policy, seat management and shared Projects, starting at $40 a month per seat per its plans article. That is double Claude's Team Standard annual price, so it makes sense only if search is the core job. App Advisor lists both products in the AI tools category and the AI chatbots category, where you can set them beside other assistants.

A two-week rollout that avoids paying for shelfware

  1. Days 1 to 3: Pick the five tasks you want faster: quotation drafts, customer email replies, meeting write-ups, tender summaries, vendor comparisons. Write them down with an owner and a current time per task.
  2. Days 4 to 7: Put one person per task on a monthly plan, not annual. Monthly Claude Pro costs $20 against $17 annual, so the premium for flexibility on a pilot is $3 a seat.
  3. Days 8 to 10: Check whether anyone hit usage limits. Claude says Pro has a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit across models. Heavy users are the ones who need Max or a Premium Team seat. If those heavy users are developers, compare GitHub Copilot and Cursor before paying for a general assistant seat.
  4. Days 11 to 14: Decide. Move to annual Team seats for the people who used it daily and cancel the rest. Set an owner for the account, route the purchase through your software approval workflow, and write a rule on what customer data may be pasted in. Our overview of AI tools for Indian SMBs: costs, data and risks has a starter policy.

If your team also wants AI inside its meetings, look at the AI meeting assistants category and our comparison of Fireflies and Otter, since a general assistant does not replace a bot that joins calls.

Who should not buy any of these yet

  • A business that cannot pay in dollars. If your finance team cannot get an international-enabled card approved, fix that before you pick a tool.
  • Teams with no repeatable written work. Shops and clinics whose work is mostly billing and inventory will get more from a better billing system than from a chatbot seat.
  • Regulated data you cannot share. Until legal signs off on what may leave the company, an assistant is a leak risk with a monthly fee.
  • A single occasional user. Free tiers exist (see our guide to free business software in India); Claude's Free plan covers everyday questions with limits on a rolling five-hour window.

FAQs

Is ChatGPT Plus cheaper than Claude Pro in India?

This guide does not quote ChatGPT's price, because OpenAI sets prices per country and shows them on its own pricing page. Claude Pro is listed at $17 a month annual or $20 monthly, so compare that against the figure ChatGPT shows when you are logged in from India, and add the card conversion charge to both.

Does Claude Pro price in rupees?

Claude's support article says Pro is "$20 per month (US), with pricing in your local currency where supported" and tells users to check claude.ai/upgrade or their app store for their region. It does not name India, so check the checkout screen before assuming an INR price.

Can I get a GST invoice for Claude or Perplexity?

Claude's billing pages show an optional Tax or VAT ID field when your address qualifies, and invoices are emailed to the billing address, but India and GSTIN are not named. Run one paid month and send the invoice to your CA before you scale seats.

What is Claude's Enterprise workspace plan for?

It is for organisations that need SCIM, audit logs, a Compliance API, custom data retention and admin spend limits. Self-serve Enterprise starts at 20 seats and sales-assisted deals at 50, with usage billed at API rates on top of the seat fee.

Is Perplexity Pro worth it for a small team?

At $17 a month billed annually per the pricing page, it is worth testing if your work is research with citations. If your main need is drafting from internal documents, a Claude Team seat at $20 annual is the closer fit.
