Exam Management Software: From Question Papers to Report Cards

Start at the report card, not the question bank

Ask the vendor to produce a report card in your exact format, printed, with your grading rules, co-scholastic areas, remarks and signatures, during the demo. For colleges, ask for a transcript with SGPA and CGPA computed to the affiliating university's rules. If they need two weeks to configure a template, that is fine — but see the finished output before you sign, not after.

Online and proctored examinations

Online assessment is now routine for internal tests, entrance exams and recruitment. The requirements that separate serious platforms are question randomisation, section timing, negative marking, auto-evaluation of objective questions with manual evaluation of subjective ones, and proctoring — AI-based monitoring of the webcam and screen, or live human invigilation. If the exam has real consequences, test the platform at full candidate load before the actual exam, not on the day.

Eligibility gates are a policy decision, not a feature

Most institutions block hall tickets for students below attendance thresholds or with fee dues. This is easy to configure and hard to operate: exceptions are granted daily during exam week. Make sure there is an approval workflow with an audit trail rather than a switch that an operator flips, and that the exception is recorded against the student.
