Quick answer: Match the tool to the job. Synthesia makes avatar-presenter videos from a script and starts at $29 a month (about 12 minutes of video). Descript edits recorded video and podcasts by editing text, from $16 a month annual, and lists Hindi among its transcription and dubbing languages. Hippo Video targets sales teams with personalised video, from $20 per user a month annual. All three charge in US dollars. Prices checked October 2026.

How we researched this: We read the pricing pages of Synthesia, Descript and Hippo Video, including their feature tables and language lists, and Synthesia's homepage. Facts are as checked in October 2026. We did not render sample videos, so we make no claim about how natural any avatar or voice sounds in an Indian accent.

What each tool is for, and what it costs

These three solve different problems, so comparing them on price alone misleads. Here is the shape of each, using the vendors' own prices in dollars.

ToolBest jobEntry paid price (October 2026)Free tier
SynthesiaTraining, product and HR videos with an AI presenterStarter $29/month billed monthly500 credits (10 min of video), watermark
DescriptEditing recorded video and audio by editing a transcriptHobbyist $16/month annual ($24 monthly)Free plan, 1 hr of media a month

Hippo Video, text-to-videoAI avatar videos from textStarter $24/user/month annual ($29 monthly)$0, 3 downloads/shares a month

If you came here looking for one tool to do everything, the honest answer is that no single plan does recording, editing, avatar presenting and sales sequencing well. Choose the job first.

Synthesia: pay by credits, so count minutes before you buy

Synthesia's pricing page runs on credits, "the shared currency across all AI usage-based features". The Basic plan is $0 with 500 credits a month, 10 minutes of video creation or dubbing, and a watermark. Starter is $29 a month billed monthly with 1,250 credits, shown as up to about 12 minutes of video. Pro is $89 a month with 6,000 credits, shown as up to about 60 minutes, and its credit tiers step up to 48,000 credits a month for $676. Enterprise is custom. The page's calculator states the rate: "100 credits per minute" of video and "76 credits per minute" for dubbing, with the first 10 minutes included on every plan.

That rate turns the plan choice into arithmetic. An HR team making 8 two-minute onboarding videos a month needs about 16 minutes, which is more than Starter's 12, so Pro at $89 fits. A founder who makes one 5-minute product update a month can stay on Starter at $29. Note that the page says "Actual credit use depends on what's in your videos โ€“ avatars, B-roll, motion graphics and dubbing each count differently", so treat the numbers as an estimate and run a pilot.

Plan features step up as follows. Starter lets you download content and remove the Synthesia logo, with 125+ stock avatars and 3 guests. Pro adds 5 Personal Avatars, branded video pages, interactive videos, 180+ avatars and 5 guests. Enterprise lists unlimited video minutes, "1-Click Translations into 140+ languages", 240+ avatars, SAML/SSO, brand kits and SCORM export, the last of which matters if you push training into an LMS. Synthesia's homepage says its avatars and voiceovers work "in 140+ languages", which is the vendor's claim. A "Personal Avatar" is a digital version of a real person, so get written consent from that person before creating one.

Descript: edit video the way you edit a document

Descript is the tool for footage you have already recorded, such as a founder's webinar, a customer podcast or a Zoom demo. Its pricing page lists Hobbyist at $16 a month (annual) with 10 media hours and 400 AI credits a month and watermark-free 1080p export; Creator at $24 with 30 media hours, 800 credits and 4K export; and Business at $50 with 40 media hours and 1,500 credits. The page also shows $24, $35 and $65 as the higher figures, which correspond to monthly billing. The Free plan allows 60 minutes (1 hour) of media a month and 100 one-time AI credits.

For Indian creators the language lists are the useful part. Descript says it transcribes in 25 languages and Hindi is on the list. Caption translation is available in 61 languages, and the list names Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi and Assamese among others. Dubbing (translating audio) covers 30 languages, and the Indian ones named are Hindi and Tamil. "Native-sounding AI speakers" are listed for 14 languages, with Hindi among them. So a Hindi explainer with Marathi and Tamil subtitles is within what the page lists, while Marathi voice dubbing is not. Gujarati and Kannada do not appear in the caption list we read, so a Surat or Mysuru audience needs a different plan.

Descript's AI tools include Studio Sound, Remove Filler Words, Eye Contact and Create Clips, and AI Speech with custom voice clones. A clone of a voice is a consent question as much as a feature; see below. Business buyers also get "AI and data controls: opt-out of training, custom retention" on Enterprise, per the page.

Hippo Video: video for sales, with a separate text-to-video line

Hippo Video's page splits into "Video Messaging" and "Text-to-Video", each with its own plans. In video messaging, Free is $0 with 50 automated personalised videos, a teleprompter and Gmail, Outlook and LinkedIn integrations. Pro is $20 per user a month billed annually ($30 monthly) with 100 automated personalised videos, Full HD recordings, a virtual background and custom branding. Teams is $60 annually ($75 monthly) with 300 personalised videos and integrations with "Outreach, Salesloft, Hubspot, Freshworks CRM / Freshsales and more", and Enterprise is $80 per user a month annual with a minimum of 10 seats, SSO and Salesforce integration.

The text-to-video line is separate: Free at $0 with 3 downloads or shares a month, Starter at $24 per user annual ($29 monthly) with 10, Creator at $69 annual ($89 monthly) with 30 downloads and video translation, and Enterprise with custom avatars. Pay-as-you-go creation is "Only $5 for each video creation", and a custom avatar is a "$1000 one-time fee". Buying the Sales Enterprise plan includes complimentary access to the Starter text-to-video plan, per the note on the page.

A realistic use for a 6-person Chennai B2B sales team: record a 60-second intro video, then let Pro send 100 personalised variants with each prospect's name and website background. Whether those videos lift replies is something to test with your own list; we have no data on that. If the videos go out by WhatsApp or email, pair them with follow-up automation.

Three Indian setups priced from the published rates

All amounts are list prices in dollars before tax. Add your card's conversion charge.

A 12-person Pune software firm making product tutorials. Synthesia Starter at $29 a month covers about 12 minutes of finished video; Pro at $89 covers about 60. If tutorials are screen recordings with a voiceover, Descript Creator at $24 a month (annual) may serve better, since you edit your own recordings and publish in 4K.

A 5-rep Coimbatore textile exporter sending catalogue videos to overseas buyers. Hippo Video Pro: 5 x $20 = $100 a month on annual billing, or 5 x $60 = $300 on Teams if you need CRM connections. A cheaper route is Descript Hobbyist at $16 and a phone video per collection, since the exporter's problem is catalogue footage, not avatars.

A 40-branch NBFC training team producing compliance refreshers in Hindi, Marathi and Tamil. Synthesia Enterprise offers 140+ languages, SSO and SCORM export, but is quote-priced. Descript lists Hindi voice and Marathi and Tamil captions, which may be enough for a recorded trainer, at $24 a month on Creator. Ask Synthesia for a sample in each language before signing, and have a native speaker review it.

Whichever tool you pick, the slow part is the script and the review, not the render. Synthesia's homepage says you can start from "a PowerPoint, document, or link" and get a draft with a script, scenes and an avatar presenter, which suits a company that already has training decks. A good routine for a manufacturing firm: the subject-matter expert writes five bullet points; someone in marketing turns them into a 150-word script; the expert checks every number; then the tool renders the video. Never publish a number you did not check, because an avatar will read a wrong figure with perfect confidence.

For recorded material, upload the recording to Descript, remove filler words, trim by deleting text, add captions in the languages your customers speak, and export. For sales video, record one clean 60-second take in Hippo Video, set up the personalisation fields from your CRM, and send a small batch before a larger one. Keep a version log so that when a price or a product name changes you know which videos to regenerate. That is the quiet advantage of text-driven video: change the sentence, regenerate the clip.

AI avatars and cloned voices raise consent issues. Use only avatars you are licensed to use, get written consent from any employee whose face or voice you clone, and tell viewers the presenter is synthetic. Do not use AI presenters to imitate customers, doctors or officials. Read our AI tools for Indian SMBs guide for a policy template and the DPDP Act compliance guide for personal data in recordings. App Advisor also lists HeyGen, D-ID, Colossyan and Hour One for avatar videos, and Captions for subtitling. Browse the video tools category, the AI image and video category and the caption tools category for more. We have not read their pricing for this guide.

If your need is voice only, see ElevenLabs in the audio tools category. For static creative and social content, our guide to AI social media post tools in India and the Canva and Figma pricing guide may be better value than video.

A two-week pilot and who should skip this

Pick one video you must make anyway, such as an onboarding walkthrough. Produce it in two tools, time yourself, and show both versions to five employees or customers. Check three things: whether the language and accent sound right, whether the editing time fits your team, and what the finished minute actually cost in credits. Then buy one month, not a year. Our software demo checklist and GST input credit guide cover the buying admin.

Skip AI video if your audience distrusts avatars, such as high-trust medical or legal advice, or if one well-lit phone video of the real owner would convert better.
