Quick answer: On list prices checked in October 2026, ClickUp is the cheaper way to get a full project workspace: Business is $12 per user per month billed yearly, against $19 for monday.com Pro. Pick monday.com if your team prefers board-based tracking and you are happy buying from three seats. Pick ClickUp if you want docs, chat, forms and many views in one place. Asana is the third option for approvals and portfolios. All three quote in US dollars.
How we researched this: We read the pricing pages of monday.com, ClickUp and Asana (including their FAQ sections on seats, tax and refunds), plus ClickUp's views feature page. Facts are as checked in October 2026. We did not read any vendor price in rupees, so every figure below is a dollar figure as published, excluding tax.
The prices side by side, as published
All figures are per user per month and are the vendors' own list prices. monday.com says its prices "do not include tax" and that "the price is determined by the user's billing country", so the number on your checkout page can differ from these.
| Plan | Yearly billing | Monthly billing | Where it starts |
|---|---|---|---|
| monday.com Free | $0 | $0 | Up to 2 seats, 3 boards, 3 Docs |
| monday.com Basic | $9 | Not discounted (price not shown on page) | Plans start from 3 users |
| monday.com Standard | $12 | Not discounted | Timeline and Gantt, guests, automations |
| monday.com Pro | $19 | Not discounted | Time tracking, private boards, 25,000 automation actions |
| ClickUp Free Forever | $0 | $0 | Unlimited tasks, 60MB storage |
| ClickUp Unlimited | $7 | $10 | Unlimited storage, Gantt, time tracking |
| ClickUp Business | $12 | $19 | Dashboards, timeline views, 5K automations a month |
| Asana Starter | $10.99 | $13.49 | Timeline, dashboards, forms, unlimited automations |
| Asana Advanced | $24.99 | $30.49 | Portfolios, goals, approvals, time tracking |
One monday.com quirk is worth reading before you trust the headline number. In the page's 10-seat example, each paid tier shows an AI credits line, 1,000 credits for $10 on Basic, 2,000 for $20 on Standard and 3,000 for $30 on Pro, and an identical "special monthly discount" that cancels it. The totals come to $90, $120 and $190 for 10 seats. If that discount ends, the AI-credit line is what you would pay on top, so ask the monday.com team in writing whether it applies to your account. The page also says "the monthly plan is not discounted", which means that if you pay month to month you lose the yearly rate.
monday.com: what each tier unlocks
monday.com's own plan cards show these steps. The Free plan is for "up to 2 seats" with 3 boards. Basic adds unlimited items and unlimited free viewers, who have read-only access. Standard adds timeline and Gantt views, a calendar view, guest access, 3 workflows, and automations and integrations capped at 250 actions a month. Pro raises that to 25,000 actions a month and 20 workflows, and adds private boards and docs, advanced board views, time tracking and advanced columns for dependencies.
Two limits shape the buying decision. First, the 250-action cap on Standard is small if you automate status changes across several boards; a team that fires one notification for each of 40 tasks a day would use up 250 actions in about six working days. Second, the FAQ says "Plans start from 3 users" and, for more than 40 users, you request a quote, so a 12-person team sits comfortably in the self-serve range while a 60-person company talks to sales.
monday.com also sells separate products for CRM, service and dev teams. If your real need is a sales pipeline rather than project tracking, compare it against a CRM; our guide to CRM task management for sales teams explains where a project tool stops being the right fit.
ClickUp: what each tier unlocks
ClickUp's pricing page shows its Free Forever plan with unlimited tasks and unlimited free-plan members, but only 60MB of storage, two-factor authentication, docs, Kanban boards, sprint management and a calendar view. Unlimited at $7 yearly adds unlimited storage, Gantt charts, custom fields, native time tracking, goals and portfolio management, guests with permission control, resource management and ClickUp Chat. Business at $12 yearly adds unlimited dashboards, timeline views, Google SSO, private whiteboards and proofing, and "5K Automations Per Month".
ClickUp's feature comparison puts the automation ladder in numbers: 100 executions on Free, 1,000 on Unlimited, 5,000 on Business and 250,000 on Enterprise. Enterprise is where the page lists SAML SSO, SCIM, an audit log and "Data Residency". The page also carries a "100% Money-back Guarantee" banner; read the terms behind it before you rely on it.
Note that monday.com counts "actions" and ClickUp counts "executions". They are not identical units, so test your three most important automations on a trial of each and watch the counters rather than comparing the numbers. ClickUp's views page lists List, Board and Calendar views among "a dozen more", plus Docs, Chat, Whiteboards and Forms that turn submissions into tasks. For an Indian agency that takes client requests over WhatsApp and email, that form-to-task path is the feature to test first.
Asana: the third option, and how it bills
The keyword "Asana team task tracker India" is common because Asana's free tier is easy to start. The Personal plan is "$0 Free forever" for one or two people. Starter at $10.99 per user a month billed annually ($13.49 monthly) has no user seat limits and includes timeline and Gantt views, reporting dashboards, unlimited automations, forms and unlimited free guests. Advanced at $24.99 annually ($30.49 monthly) adds unlimited portfolios, goals, resource management, approvals and proofing, and time tracking.
Asana's FAQ answers three points Indian buyers ask about. Seats are added in steps: single seats between 2 and 5 users, steps of 5 up to 30, steps of 10 up to 100. It says it "may be required to charge VAT, GST, and other taxes", and that if you are registered for GST you should add your registration number at checkout to have any exemption processed. And on refunds: "We do not offer refunds", although you keep paid features until the end of the term if you cancel. That last point argues for a monthly month before an annual commitment, even though monthly costs more.
What a team of 12 and a team of 35 would pay
These figures multiply published yearly list prices by seats, in US dollars and before tax. Pick your own rupee conversion at your card's rate.
A 12-person Ahmedabad digital agency tracking client deliverables. monday.com Standard: 12 x $12 = $144 a month; Pro: 12 x $19 = $228. ClickUp Unlimited: 12 x $7 = $84; Business: 12 x $12 = $144. Asana Starter: 12 x $10.99 = $131.88; Advanced: 12 x $24.99 = $299.88. For a team that mainly needs task lists, due dates and guest clients, ClickUp Unlimited or Asana Starter is enough, and the saving over monday.com Pro is $144 a month on ClickUp Unlimited.
A 35-person Bengaluru services firm with project managers, delivery leads and finance. ClickUp Business: 35 x $12 = $420. monday.com Pro: 35 x $19 = $665, still under monday.com's 40-user quote line. Asana Starter: 35 x $10.99 = $384.65, with seats added in steps of 10 once you pass 30 users. The cheapest line is not the answer if finance needs time tracking tied to invoices; see our guide to time tracking and timesheet software in India before you decide that the project tool should also be your timesheet.
A 5-person Pune architecture studio sharing drawings and site-visit lists. monday.com's Free plan stops at 2 seats, so five people need Basic at 5 x $9 = $45 (it starts from 3 users). ClickUp's Free Forever plan allows unlimited members but only 60MB of storage, which a folder of drawings will exceed quickly, so the realistic price is Unlimited at 5 x $7 = $35. Asana's Personal plan is for one or two people, so Starter at 5 x $10.99 = $54.95 applies. For a studio this small, the cheapest tool is ClickUp Unlimited, but only if you keep drawings in a proper cloud storage drive and use the tracker for tasks alone.
Guests, approvals and client access: the agency test
If you bill clients for deliverables, the question that matters is how a client sees your work. The three vendors answer it differently on their pricing pages. monday.com lists guest access from Standard: "Guests are external users who can only access boards you invite them to, keeping the rest of your account private." ClickUp's Free Forever plan says "Guests must be given full access (no permissions)", while Unlimited adds "Guests With Permission Control". Asana's Starter plan lists "Unlimited free guests" that "let clients and contractors collaborate without increasing your license count", and Advanced adds approvals and proofing.
For a design or content agency, that makes the guest model a price driver: a client who can only comment on one board is safe, a client with full access to every list is not. Test it by inviting a friendly client or a colleague's personal email, and look at what they can open. Our guide to free business software in India explains why free tiers usually drop exactly these controls.
A one-month trial that decides the question, and who should skip it
Run the same real project in both tools, not a template.
- Week 1: Move one live client project. Create the board or list, add the five people who touch it, and import the current task list from your spreadsheet.
- Week 2: Build the two automations that save the most time, such as "when a task moves to Review, notify the account manager". Watch the action counters, and compare against what a general automation tool would do instead; our Zapier vs Make vs n8n guide covers when to move logic out of the project tool.
- Week 3: Invite one client as a guest and note what they can and cannot see. This is where ClickUp's permission-controlled guests and monday.com's board-level guest access get tested.
- Week 4: Ask everyone which tool they opened without being reminded. Adoption beats features.
Add the purchase to your software demo checklist, and compare the broader field in App Advisor's project management software category or our guide to the best project management software in India. If your needs lean towards notes and lightweight boards, Notion or Trello may fit better, and our Notion vs Trello comparison sets them side by side. Teams that also need a chat tool can read our Slack vs Microsoft Teams price comparison.
Who should not buy any of these
- A team of three that lives in WhatsApp and Excel and meets weekly. A shared sheet is free and enough.
- A construction or site business. Drawings, RFIs and measurement sheets need a construction tool; see our guide to construction project management software.
- Anyone who needs to pay in rupees on a GST invoice today. None of the three pricing pages we read quoted rupees, so confirm currency and invoicing with the vendor first, and see SaaS priced in rupees.
