Zerodha

Zerodha is a Bengaluru-based stockbroker that pioneered the discount broking model in India. Retail and active traders use it to invest and trade in equities, derivatives, commodities, currencies and mutual funds through its own trading platforms and apps.

Its main products are Kite, the web and mobile trading platform, and Coin, a platform for direct mutual fund investments. Varsity is its free market education resource and Trading Q&A is its community forum. Zerodha also releases open-source software, including listmonk, a self-hosted newsletter and mailing list manager that businesses in India and elsewhere use as email marketing infrastructure.

Zerodha is a member of NSE, BSE, MCX and MSEI. It is known for flat, low brokerage fees for intraday and derivatives trades and zero brokerage for equity delivery investments, with statutory charges and taxes passed through to clients. Its open-source tools such as listmonk are free to self-host.

The company was founded on 15 August 2010 by Nithin Kamath, the founder and CEO, and Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder and CFO. Its leadership also includes CTO Dr. Kailash Nadh. Zerodha says it has more than 1.8 crore clients, describes itself as India's largest stockbroker by net worth, and says it accounts for more than 15% of Indian retail trading volumes. It also founded Rainmatter, a fintech fund and incubator. Zerodha's registered office is in J.P. Nagar, Bengaluru. Zerodha has not published a total employee count on its About page. Businesses considering listmonk should note that it is self-hosted, so they run and maintain the software on their own servers.
